March is Women’s History Month! It’s essential that we celebrate this significant month for so many women worldwide. Here at Limon, we’re happy with all of our women, and so, here are great day trips to do in each county!

1 – San Diego

The Women’s Museum of California focuses on women’s history and features multiple exhibits about women. It is also located next to the San Diego History Center and is currently only open on Saturdays and Sundays to the public due to COVID-19. However, the museum does feature multiple virtual events and exhibits, especially a very important display about black women, which celebrates black women throughout history. The museum will also be inducing people into their hall of fame on March 20th, 2022, at 2:30 PM. Tickets for the event are available here on their website: https://www.womensmuseumca.org

After visiting the Women’s Museum of California, check out the San Diego History Center and The San Diego Museum of Art. The most recommended exhibit to see at the History Center is an exhibit about the life of Nathan Harrison, a man born enslaved in San Diego and who died in San Diego. The San Diego Museum of Art also features artwork from all around the world!

And finally, for more places to visit, there is the San Diego Natural History Museum and so many other museums, gardens, hiking trails, and art centers to see in the area! There’s bound to be something for everyone on this day trip!

2 – Orange County

Huntington Beach has many women-owned businesses, and what better way to celebrate Women’s History Month than by supporting women-owned businesses!

You can start your morning with Yoga on the Beach, and it’s free to join! Enjoy doing yoga classes located next to Lifeguard Tower 14 on Huntington Beach. Donations are encouraged but not required. After a relaxing yoga class, be sure to stop by for breakfast/brunch at milk & honey! We recommend ordering the lavender latte, the lavender americano, a combination of lavender, black tea extract, espresso, and water, the vanilla chai latte, and the acai bowl.

After a workout, what better way than to start your day and celebrate Women’s History Month by supporting women-owned businesses with some shopping by starting with Cleobella! It is an international lifestyle brand located in Sunset Beach featuring global products and owned by Angela, who was inspired to do this after her travels to Bali. 1% of profits are also donated to non-profit organizations dedicated to female empowerment.

Pamper yourself by then visiting Sunset Skin Boutique, owned by Koleen Budney, where you can get a facial and check out the beauty of Huntington Harbor.

You can then grab lunch at SeaLegs at the Beach, where you can not only eat but also enjoy live music, live entertainment, and a beautiful view of the beach, all while enjoying a nice glass of wine and beer.

If you want caffeine in the afternoon, be sure to check out vegan coffee shop Aosa Coffee, an African-American female-owned business located at Huntington Harbour Mall known for kombucha, vegan pastries, and avocado toast are must-tries!

Finally, end your day by checking out Wet Dog Tavern, a gastropub located in the heart of downtown near Huntington Beach Pier, a local favorite and popular and pet-friendly place! Yes, you can bring your dog here!

This gastropub is known for its brunch items, with their most popular item being the Fried Egg Sandwich! Their signature appetizer is called the Wet Dog, chorizo sausages topped with pickled onions and homemade BBQ sauce!

What better way to end your day trip than going to the bar and chatting with locals while enjoying a local craft beer!

3 – Los Angeles

The Natural History Museum of Los Angeles features an online exhibit called Rise Up LA, talking about women protesting for voting rights in the 1920s and remembering the names of women who led the movement to women’s rights. The museum also features an exhibit talking about the life and legacy of Dr. Jane Goodall, a female anthropologist who continues to study primates and who is considered the best expert in the world on primatology, the study of primates. Another exhibit of interest is an online exhibit about a mural called L.A. History: A Mexican Perspective, a mural created by Chicana artist Barbara Carrasco detailing the history of Los Angeles.

After visiting the museum, stop by for a bite to eat at Trimana!

4 – Santa Barbara

The Santa Barbara International Film Festival will take place in downtown Santa Barbara next month! Book your tickets now to see some fantastic films, all the while enjoying the downtown area!

The Film Festival will be honoring actress Kristen Stewart and will also be featuring an upcoming documentary called Dionne Warwick: Don’t Make Me Over, which follows the life of Dionne Warwick, an African-American actress, and singer.

After multiple visits and events to the festivals, there are many great places in downtown Santa Barbara to get food. For a great lunch, be sure to stop by Eureka!, a burger chain restaurant. For your appetizer, we recommend getting the mac and cheese balls, and for your entrees, we recommend the grilled chicken nachos, the Eureka! American Cheeseburger and the Fresno Fig Burger. Sarah’s favorites (our Social Media Marketing Intern) are the mac and cheese balls, the Spicy Chicken Sandwich, and the Fresno Fig Burger. Sarah also recommends crispy glazed brussel sprouts, roasted beets, and whipped feta as appetizers. The restaurant also features date night for two and family bundles. It is a great place to be with your friends!

If you’re in the mood for a sweet tooth or coffee, we recommend Cajé. We can’t get enough of it! Lili Montes, the Co-Founder and CEO’s favorite drink, is Jupiter’s Forest, an iced oat milk latte, cold brew, juniper berry, sage syrup infused with grapefruit, garnished with a golden flower, grapefruit peel & sage. The avocado toast over there is great as well!

If you don’t particularly want coffee but still crave something sweet, McConnell’s Fine Ice Cream on Mission Street is a must! This place has been a prominent local favorite in the Santa Barbara community serving ice cream since 1949, and has been in business for over 70 years! TIME magazine even states that it is “the best ice cream in the world.” The top four ice cream flavors you have to try are the Sea Salt Cream and Cookies, Salted Caramel Chip, Golden State Vanilla, and Double Peanut Butter Chip. They also feature a seasonal flavor, with the flavor changing depending on the season!
